Clyda Rovers Juvenile Club

Clyda U16 footballers continued their winning run last Monday night with a home win against last year's county champions, Kiskeam. Kiskeam looked the stronger team at times but Clyda made them battle for everything and the teams were level at half-time at 1-3 apiece. In the second half Clyda seemed to lose their way a little as their passing let them down and Kiskeam started to dominate. In this period it looked at times as if Kiskeam were going to run away with the tie but a combination of poor shooting and last-ditch defending kept Clyda hanging on in the game. Clyda made a few switches which seemed to work and taking inspiration from Kiskeam's wastefulness Clyda came storming back into the game to take the lead. In an amazing sequence of play late in the game Kiskeam looked to be in with a great goal chance but Daniel Fitzpatrick got his body in the way of a shot and then amazingly from the rebound the unmarked Kiskeam full-forward kicked the ball over the bar when an empty net beckoned. Clyda closed out the game well to win 2-07 to 1-08.
