Clyda Rovers u 14 Footballers played Kiskeam in the first round of the Championship in Kilbrin on Thursday evening. Clyda opened the scoring with a Dominic Cronin goal, which was soon cancelled out by a Kiskeam goal at the other end. Kiskeam then added 3 points to their tally, followed by a Clyda point from Dominic Cronin, leaving it 1-1 to 1-3 to Kiskeam. Kiskeam were then awarded a penalty which went straight to the back of the net, followed by Clyda points from Conor Corbett and Ben O Connor. The last score of the first half was a point for Kiskeam, leaving four between the sides at the short whistle, 2-4 to 1-3 to Kiskeam. Both sides traded points at the start of the second half, before Kiskeam put over two unanswered points , giving them a 2-8 to 1-5 advantage. It looked like the game could be gone away from Clyda at this stage, but from here on in things swung completely in Clyda's favour. Clyda were awarded a penalty which Sean O Shea lobbed into the back of the net, followed by a point from Sean and two from Ben O Connor and suddenly the game was level. The Clyda back line and midfield defended with their lives to keep their lines clear , with new comer Matthew McEntee proving very effective and Clyda held Kiskeam scoreless for the rest of the game.
