Under 14 Football Championship Semi Final. 2013-08-03 19:53:00

Clyda Rovers u14 footballers played Ballyhooley in the Championship Semi Final last Thursday evening in Ballyhass. After a thrilling victory against Kiskeam the previous week, it was hoped the same could be done here. All involved knew going into the game that it would be a tough battle as these two sides have met over the last few years, and this physically strong Ballyhooley side always came out on top. Clyda got off to a great start registering the first two points, one each from Ben O Connor and Conor Corbett. Ballyhooley then got their first point of the game, followed by a Sean O Shea free leaving it three points to one point to Clyda. A great passage of play by Clyda in the next few minutes saw two further Clyda points from Conor Corbett, leaving it five points to two points. Ballyhooley replied with a goal and s point to go one point up, before Clyda's Sean O Shea pointed a free to level things again. Ballyhooley came back again though and scored 1- 1 in the last minutes of the game giving them a four point advantage at the short whistle, 2-4 to 0-6. Ballyhooley continued the pressure in the second half, getting some fine scores. Clyda continued to plug away, with some good defending in the back line, Daniel Fitzpatrick working really hard throughout the game. Clyda introduced some fresh legs and this lifted the game for awhile. Clyda's scores in the second half came from two William Cronin goals, with some other attempts at goal not working out on the night, Ballyhooley ran out convincing winners . Well done to all the Clyda panel for battling to the end.
