Clyda and Killavullen draw in U15 hurling

Extra-time failed to separate Clyda and Killavullen after this dramatic under 15 hurling championship first round encounter in Glantane. This was the proverbial game of two halves and in truth both sides were probably left feeling equally fortunate and equally perplexed with the draw. Clyda played exceptionally well in the first half playing down the slope into what is often seen as the scoring goal in Glantane. Clyda started in whirlwind fashion and scored freely. Despite some lackadaisical finishing late in the half which saw good opportunities being spurned, Clyda held a commanding 15 point lead at half-time. In the second half, Clyda completely dropped their intensity and Killavullen almost made them pay as they stormed back into the match. With the momentum now having swung completely to Killavullen Clyda were struggling badly. Killavullen ate into the Clyda lead and when the final whistle sounded the teams were heading for extra-time. Both teams were now suffering badly from fatigue and scores were hard to come by. Both sides added just 1-1 in extra time, with Gavin Dennehy's fifth goal of the day coming from a 21 yard free to leave the teams heading for a replay on a score of Clyda 6-09 Killavullen 5-12." Clyda team: Daniel Fitzpatrick, Mark O'Sullivan, Conor Pratt, William Cronin,Gareth O'Hanlon, Sean Kelly, Martin O'Connor, Eamon O'Doherty, Colin Kelly, Darragh Buckley, Gavin Dennehy, Ben O'Connor, Sean O'Shea, Dylan Flanagan.
