U21 HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI FINAL:

Extra time could not separate Clyda Rovers  and Garrymaygaels in the semi final of the Hurling Championship at Kildorrery last Tuesday evening. At the short whistle there were just two between the sides, Clyda leading 0-9 to 1-4. Towards the end of the first half Clyda lost the very influential Kenneth Fitzgerald to injury. First half Clyda scores came from the dominant Chris Buckley (0-5(0- 3f ), Kenneth Fitzgerald (0-2), Seamus Ronayne and Conor Flanagan (0-1) each, with Garrymaygaels registering quite a few wides. Both teams traded scores at the start of the second half . Clyda conceded a few soft frees, one from the 21 yard line that ended up in the back of the Clyda net, which was followed by a point levelling the game. Clyda's last score of the half took them up one but Garrymaygaels took the game to extra time with a pointed free. Clyda's Chris Buckley got two pointed frees in the first half of extra time to Garrymaygaels one point. The point advantage was cancelled out in the opening minutes of the second half, before both sides traded points once more. Garrymaygaels then went one point ahead in what looked like bring the last score of the game but Clydas Chris Buckley had other ideas. Having been awarded a free in what was do or die to take the game to a replay, he slotted it over the bar, giving Clyda a deserved second chance . Check locally for details of same !!
