Div 3 Avondhu Football league result.

Clyda Rovers 0-4 Doneraile 0-9.

Match Report

The Clyda Rovers Junior B team made their seasonal reappearance against Doneraile on Saturday 8th February.  The underfoot conditions were heavy and the going suited to the more staying types, credit must go to the Doneraile club for making sure the fixture went ahead.

Despite missing a few of the players that brought championship success at this level last year, Clyda nonetheless fielded a relatively strong team.

Chris O’Connell and Kyle Crowley were up against a strong Doneraile pairing at midfield but they managed to win an equal share of procession and kept the Clyda forwards supplied with a reasonable amount of ball in the first half.  Doneraile had the better of the early exchanges and were 2 points to the good before Christy Roche put Clyda on the board with a free.  The heavy rain over the previous 2 days meant that players found the underfoot conditions energy sapping and passing became difficult.  The half ended with a Kyle Crowley point that capped off a great movement.

The second half saw more of the great attitude that has become the hallmark of this team.  The introduction of fresh legs game ensured that the team continued to work hard.  The result was in the balance up until the end.  A great attack yielded a well deserved score for Chris O’Connell and with two minutes left on the clock just 3 points and Clyda pressed in search of the goal that might bring them a share of the spoils.  But it wasn’t to be and at the end of an entertaining game Doneraile were the winners on a scoreline of 9 points to 4.

With the first game out of the way the team are now looking forward to the rest of the league with optimism.

The team lined out as follows:

Gearoid O’Shea, Sean Ronayne, Cathal Greene, Sean O’Connor, Donal Stack, Donal O’Callaghan, William Cronin, Kyle Crowley, Chris O’Connell, Michael Lenihan, Billy Mulcahy, Cian Cronin, Tadhg O’Connor, Conor O’Donoghue, Christy Roche,

Subs used: Donal O’Mullane, Brian Lynch, Ronal Flanagan, James Buckley, Mike Forde, John Martin O’Hanlon
