UNDER 21 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP 2014-03-05 10:35:00

Clyda u21 footballers opened their championship campaign last Saturday against Fermoy in Castletownroche. Being graded A was always going to be a big challenge, with only three players on the age and some very young players having to step up a grade. Step up the players did, with each and everyone if the Clyda panel giving it their all. Clyda contested the first half well and were up 6 points to 4 points at the short whistle.

Both sides traded points at the start of the second half, Clyda's score coming from a Dan O Callaghan free. Seamus Ronayne added a second point for Clyda, giving them a 3 point advantage. Fermoy replied with 4 unanswered points to take them one up, before Seamus Ronayne levelled the game. The loss of Robert Walsh at this stage of the game had a bearing on the final result. Playing with one man down put the back line under pressure and with Fermoy registering two goals in the final stage of the game, it was too much for the Clyda boys to overcome. The final score read 2-10 to 0-12.
