After an absence of nine years from the Senior Championship, Clyda Rovers recorded a well deserved victory over O Donovan Rossa in the first round of the championship at Pairc UI Rinn last Sunday, the final score 2-13 to 2-7.

The hugely anticipated game, following on from our County and Munster titles didn't disappoint, with Clyda's mix of youth and experience dominating with their energy and composure throughout the pitch. In what was an impressive team performance Paudie Kissane did stand out for his energy and drive throughout the game, where he was either directly involved in scoring, his personal tally reading 1-3, or involved in setting up other scores or helping out in defence. Niall O Mullane also had a super game, working tirelessly keeping his lines clear.

The introduction of Kenneth Fitzgerald, returning from injury half way into the first half also lifted Clyda's game. The half time score read 1-6 to 0-4, Clyda having played with a strong breeze. Clyda scores came from Conor O Sullivan 0-1,  Paudie Kissane 1-2, Conor Flanagan 0-2, and Sean O Connell 0-1. O Donovan Rossa got off to a great start in the second half, putting the ball in the back of the net, Clyda however added two points of their own, a pointed 45 from James Murphy and points from Paudie Kissane and Seamus Ronayne. Two further scores from O Donovan Rossa  brought it to a one point game, 1-7 to 1-6. Clyda's keeper Cian Conway pulled off a vital save at this juncture , which turned the game Clyda's way. The team upped its performance and drove on, killing off their opponents challenge.

Even though O Donovan Rossa scored a penalty, and never gave up the fight , Clyda worked on to record a richly deserved victory.
