CLYDA ROVERS "A COMMUNITY OF CHAMPIONS" BOOK LAUNCH 2014-11-18 10:54:00

The culmination of two years work resulted in the launch of the Clyda Rovers Gaa book "A Community of Champions" in the Hibernian Hotel Mallow last Friday evening.

Special guests on the night Tracey Kennedy Pro Cork County Board, Denis Twomey Secretary Avondhu Board, John O Donnell Juvenile Board, Paudie Palmer Cork 96/103 local radio and Club President John Looney.  They were joined by a large attendance for what was a memorable and most enjoyable occasion.

It is Clyda Rovers third book in its Clubs history, and considering the Club is in existence for seventy years next year, it shows the Club has had a lot to celebrate and share. Of course there have been lows along the way too, those occasions also getting a mention in the book. MC on the night was Clyda Rovers Club Chairman Jeremiah Ronayne. Jeremiah in his speech made special mention of the three people who were instrumental in making the book a reality, Aisling Murphy, Noel Walsh and Fergal Cronin. The amount of work and time these people put into the book was phenomenal and is very much appreciated by all. In their speeches Noel and Fergal thanked everyone who had helped along the way from the papers who covered the games, to the club members who helped with the production of the book,to the players without whom there wouldn't be a book, and a special thank you to Doreen Murphy for the use of her kitchen throughout!

The title of the  book" A Community Of Champions" is very apt as not only does it document Clyda Rovers Gaa history from 1997 to 2013, the Clyda Rovers Juvenile Club and the Mourneabbey Ladies Football Team also have a section dedicated to them. It also includes a section on the development of the Mourneabbey Community Complex.

A common theme running through the speeches during the evening was praise for the way every club and committee in the parish work together for the greater good . This was never more evident than last Sunday, when for the hosting of the ladies Senior All Ireland Semi Final everybody pulled together to make it a resounding success, something for all to be proud of.

On the night Clyda Club Secretary Aisling Murphy put together slides depicting the great occasions within the Club over the last seventeen years. It showed some of the great stalwarts of the Club, a few of which unfortunately are no longer with us. The Juvenile section showed a lot of young men and women, who today have moved onto represent their Clubs at Junior and Senior level, and this is what it's all about.

Photographer Mary O Carroll was on hand to take photographs, making new memories, and refreshments were provided by the Hibernian Hotel, to whom we say a special thank you.

The night was rounded off with a group photograph of the 1989 Junior A Hurling Team, who are celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Clyda's first County Title.
